Messaging

How to send messages, reply to threads, attach files, and manage your inbox.

The messages inbox

Go to Messages in the sidebar (or the bottom nav on mobile) to see all your conversations. Unread messages are highlighted and counted in the navigation badge.

Conversations are threaded — replies are grouped under the original message.

Sending a message

From the messages inbox

  1. Click New message
  2. Select the recipient from the dropdown
  3. Enter a subject and message body
  4. Optionally attach files (see below)
  5. Click Send

From the availability page

Each row in the Availability table has a chat icon. Click it to open a quick-message panel pre-filled with the staff member’s name and a subject line referencing the unavailability period.

From the staff detail page

Open any staff member’s profile and use the New message compose panel at the top of the page.

From My Profile (staff)

Staff can send an update request to their admin from the My Profile page. This creates a message in the admin’s inbox with the details of the requested change.

Replying to a thread

Click on any message to open the thread. Type your reply in the box at the bottom and click Send.

On mobile, the reply box is pinned to the bottom of the screen so you can always see and respond to messages without scrolling.

File attachments

You can attach files to any message.

Supported file types:

  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP
  • Documents: PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT
  • Spreadsheets: XLS, XLSX
  • Plain text: TXT, CSV

Limits:

  • Up to 5 MB per file
  • Multiple files per message

How attachments appear in threads

  • Images display inline in the message thread — no need to download to see them
  • Other files appear as a labelled download link
  • Admins can delete individual attachments by clicking the trash icon next to them

Email notifications

Every time you receive a new message, Rosty sends an email notification to your registered email address with a preview of the message. Click the link in the email to open the app and reply.

Tips

  • Message subjects are pre-filled with context when you open the compose panel from the availability page — saves typing
  • You can attach sick leave certificates, rosters as PDFs, or any supporting documents directly to a message
  • The unread badge count updates whenever you receive a new message — keep an eye on it when you’re in another section of the app
